Daily program at Kanzeon Zendo

This Zendo was founded by Ama Samy for his advanced students. Others are welcome to learn and practice Zen with him. Please note that in order to participate in the koan training, you must become a disciple of Ama Samy and join the Sangha. Otherwise, you can just practice zazen.

Every last week of the month, we conduct a weeklong Sesshin (Silent Meditation Retreat) at Kanzeon Zendo. On the other days of the month, a daily schedule of zazen and samu (work practice) is followed. Thursday and Sunday afternoons are free.

A typical daily schedule at Kanzeon Zendo looks as follows:

5:50 am – 6:50 am   Zazen

7:00 am   Breakfast

8:00 am – 9:00 am   Samu (work practice)

11:50 am – 12:20 pm   Zazen

12:20 pm   Lunch

3:20 pm – 4 pm   Zazen followed by evening tea

5:30 pm – 6:30 pm   Zazen and dokusan (Teishos during Sesshin; dokusan is only for Ama Samy’s disciples)

6:30 pm   Dinner

Upon your arrival, the Zendo leader will give you an introduction to the logistics.
