Little Flower – Social Projects
The Little Flower Trust is based at the Montessori School in Perumalmalai, within walking distance of Kanzeon Zendo.
Ever since Fr. Ama founded the Bodhi Zendo Meditation Center in the mountains near Kodaikanal more than 20 years ago, he and the Sangha have been deeply involved in social projects to help the marginalized and underprivileged poor people of the surrounding villages. Through this active and continuous support, it has become an important part of the local society. Meanwhile, all local activities are under the umbrella of Little Flower Trust.
By being in contact with the children of the Montessori school, the employees of Little Flower also receive information about the families and can help in case of need.
The school was founded in 2009 and provides Montessori education to more than 130 children. In the afternoons, more than 200 children and teenagers from the surrounding villages attend evening classes. The school is also used for Little Flower group meetings and other educational training activities for teachers and children.
Little Flower also has an individual outreach program for people living in the mountain villages around Perumalmalai. Assistance is sometimes given for the education of children from poor families, for medical emergencies and for much needed treatment.
Little Flower is funded by donations. All donations are transferred to Little Flower in India without any deductions. The Little Flower Foundation qualifies as an official charitable foundation and donations are tax deductible in India, Germany and the Netherlands.
